The role of the State through the Ministry of Energy and its technical organizations must clearly define the guidelines of the equipment that will measure our energy, making efficient use of information for the purchase and sale of this through a supercomputer with information and decisions in a distributed manner, generating an “awareness” of the electrical networks that can be self-managed in real time. The above sounds like a science fiction movie, but it is the most real thing I can write since there is indeed the technological capacity and equipment to do it. We have two great allies to transform the electrical networks and I hope that we do not get trapped in the use of equipment that was designed to continue in a market model where distribution companies own everyone's energy decisions. The low costs of energy measurement technologies, added to their computing power and Internet speed, will sooner or later lead us to transform energy information into energy vectors traced by blockchain and managed through a virtual electrical coordinator with artificial intelligence. Energy measurement plays a fundamental role when implementing business models where users can buy their energy from generation plants directly, defining a space of interaction such as electrical networks. This liberalization of the energy market in homes and companies has to go hand in hand with a network development model that allows it to adapt to the needs of demand. This process can be gradual and to the extent that the markets can satisfy this demand based on an informed supply. Electrical networks currently operate under a strictly regulated model that is adverse to change, so it is urgently required to review this from a modern perspective and in accordance with current technologies, taking a look at the future at least in the development of the market in the next 10 years. For example, stopping the injections of photovoltaic energy from distributed generation facilities, imposing energy meters that cannot be self-managed, prolonging the generator and consumer model as if it were an assured business only for companies that currently exist. These are the issues that prevent the development of this new consciousness of electrical networks. To do things differently, you have to think differently.The power of the consumer to change the energy matrixThe blockchain allows energy to be traced from the origin of energy generation and can be carried out for the purchase of blocks and micro blocks of energy, with which agreements between a consumer and a generator can be made through a digital platform, where the price of energy is defined and agreed, how much power and energy is needed at different times of the day, days of the week and even schedule vacations to change to a consumption plan that is convenient. This is a new concept, but one that European energy markets have been using for years. Energy meters allow you to manage this type of information, coupled with the gentle attention of an AI that facilitates this purchase under different changes in the condition of the energy spot market. We can prefer renewable energy from a 100MW photovoltaic plant or buy the surplus from our neighbor who has 2kW in solar panels through a smart and conscious meter.And can we sell energy from our homes and businesses?Of course, having an AI that manages self-consumption, energy storage and injections into the electrical grid resulting from the generation of solar energy or other renewable sources that we have for sale, will be possible. The blockchain certifies all the data generated and transferred through “smart contracts” and AI will help us optimize the purchase/sale of energy for its efficient and economic use.
